I hate that expression.
Today is the culmination of the last three months of my life.
Scratch that. Today is the culmination of the last three years of my life.
I could probably further revise that statement and suggest that today is the culmination of my entire life, and that would most likely be accurate. However, since this is such an important turning point for me, to lump everything into this single moment in time would probably create too much pressure for myself, and since I woke up after a night of restless dreams at 5 am with a churning stomach, I don't think I should actively pursue anything that will create even more stress.
Chalkskin Comes Home happens today (7 pm at Skully's Music + Diner in Columbus, Ohio). The catchphrase I've been using for this show is "Everything Changes," and I simply can't think of any way of summing things up that could better capture the essence of what's going to happen. Simply put, today, everything changes.
Tonight, when I take that stage, I will be planting my flag firmly into my life, and when the lights go down and the show is over, I will have been baptized and renewed.
And that's why I'm up writing this instead of sleeping. I'm finding it impossible to rest when so much is right in front of me.
I can't wait to do this. I can't wait to share this experience with you. And I can't wait to see what happens after everything changes.
MC Chalkskin is a San Diego based nerdcore hip hop artist that has been rocking stages up and down the west coast for years. He's got two albums, a handful of EPs, three music videos, and has gotten praise from top artists in the genre.
But despite his stage persona's back story, few people know that the artist MC Lars called a "talented breath of fresh air" is actually from Ohio! True story, bro. Dude went to Big Walnut High School and Kent State University! He worked at Camp Lazarus!
Now the celebrated rapper will be coming home to perform for the first time in the heart of it all! He's going to take flight in the birthplace of aviation! He's going to tackle the Buckeye State! And he's doing it all just for you!
Columbus based rockers Slopapotamus will be storming the stage as well, proving that Cleveland isn't the only town in Ohio that rocks!
Get ready to groove, because Slop playsthe best dance music from the 70's to today. You won't be able to get enough of the strong, cutting vocals and harmonies of Megan and Anthony. Or the rocking riffs of Dan, the funky bass of Matt, or the funky beats of Patrick. Add to the mix a killer pop synth from Jeff, and you've truly got a recipe for a great time.
It's going to be an ambitious and furiously rocking show, and you simply have to be there. It will be the kind of night you will want to tell your grandkids about.
Some packages are web exclusives, so get your tickets now!
This is an 18 and up event.

"Load up! Load up! Chalkskin's got the game sewn up. Download my music, so what? The more you download, the more I blow up!"
PRESS RELEASE: With uncertainty always looming and a desire to further extend our fanbase, Chalkskin is pleased to announce that on Monday (May 13th), our entire catalog of music will be available to download for free. The reality is that music belongs to everyone, and great music should be shared! Chalkskin's "Party Singles," "Fresh Donuts," "PayDay," and unreleased material truly qualifies as great music, and we feel it would be a shame if it was never heard by those out there who would truly love and appreciate it.
Of course, Chalkskin will be seeking alternate methods of sustaining ourselves and amassing new funds in order to continue the luxury of creating more content. The album will still be available on paysites, and merchandise and live shows - as well as a paypal widget for donations on chalkskin.com - will always be an appreciable way to support us as we strive to create music that gets your head nodding, your face smiling, your feet moving, and your heart beating. We truly appreciate each opportunity we have had to tell our stories in the past, and we hope to be in a position to do so sometime in the future.
Chalkskin is about community. All those who listen to and love our music are a part of that, and we want to encourage everyone to get out there and share the love! Be a Chalkskin Warrior!
On November 1st, Chalkskin will be taking the stage with Con Bro Chill at the Soda Bar in San Diego. The headliners have been described as a mash-up of LMFAO, OK GO, and Freddie Mercury, so it should be a good fit for us, since some have described our group as a mash-up of Vanilla Ice, The Bangles, and the FreeCreditScore.com band.
For more details, go to http://www.sodabarmusic.com/calendar.php?event_id=1321.
Reactor Con has invited us to perform for their cos-playing, comic-buying, autograph-hounding convention goers. We're really excited, because it's not everyday you can flirt with a chick dressed as an alien fighting Japanese schoolgirl without a Chris Hansen jumping in and asking you to have a seat.
More details on their way!!
CHALKSKIN WARRIORS IN ACTION:
We are putting together our first street teams in San Diego (headed up by Rich Prophet) and Los Angeles (headed up by DJ Pop'N'Fresh). We are seeking passionate warriors to charge out on the streets and share their music with those they encounter. CDs containing "Nerdstock" and "Grape Drink (Purple Stuff)" will be handed out to anyone willing to rock out with their Spock out or indulge in a sugary treat.
Your ideas and input are the fuel that this will run on, so please hit us up!!
PAY IT FORWARD:
One thing that we are desperately lacking right now are reviews for "PayDay." You don't believe me? Hit us up on iTunes or CD Baby or wherever you pick up your favorite music. You'll see tons of feedback on MC Hammer, but not a whole lot about Chalkskin. Reality is, our stock goes up when our review count goes up. Even if the review says we suck, which it wouldn't, because we don't.
So if you love our music, and you are wondering why more people don't know about it. . . Well, now you know one pretty important reason.
Do us a favor please, and go out there and review our stuff. And do it everywhere!! Post it on iTunes, Amazon, CD Baby, your blog, your favorite forum. Let's build the name and let the world know!!
Here's a few of the places we need to plaster:
And if you know someone that should be reviewing this album, please share it with them. Remember, you can listen to the entire album for free athttp://chalkskin.bandcamp.com.
CALL TO ARMS:
Nerdstock isn't just a song. It's a dream. A place where you can come and belong. A place where you can listen to all of the greatest nerdcore rappers and geek rockers. A place where music, games, movies, and comics come together in a spectacular explosion of fireworks that rain down glory and love!
Chalkskin is leading the way for this event to come out of the dreamscape and become a reality. We hope to leverage our alliances to make Nerdstock THE event of 2013.
I need volunteers to help with getting sponsors to make this event the one we all imagine when we listen to the song. I've got kits that need printed, mailed, followed up on, etc. And we need your ideas to put them in the forefront of the potential sponsor's minds.
Need some motivation?
Get the word out!
To officially join the Chalkskin Warriors, please send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org with "Grape!" in the subject line.
A Chalkskin Warrior:
In one week, Chalkskin will be on a panel at ComiKaze in LA with So-Cal's best nerdcore rappers. Will also be interviewing Jessica Nigri and possibly Stan Lee. Should be a decent Saturday.
Huge news! MC Chalkskin has been asked to host a segment on the upcoming new web series, "The Sheepdog Show." The segment will be called "Chalkskin's 10" and will consist of the emcee asking questions to notable celebrities.
Stay tuned for more news, but in the meantime, head over to the facebook and youtube pages!
